Default proper gain settings

i have a four channel alpine amp that is 200w x4. i have a bt6100 on channels 3+4 and have boston acoustic rc 620's on channels 1+2. right now i have my gain set to its lowest settings as Crutchfield techs told me this was the best setting. but recently i've read that i'm not tapping into the full potential of the amp this way. should the gain be set a little higher and if so how will i know how high is too high?

thank you in advance

d-rock is on a distinguished road

Are you really running an amplifier into the inputs of a BTA8100?

Please confirm--that's not a good idea.
