Default A40 RCA Connections - Help please

I'm not sure i fully understand the wiring diagram for the A40. Anyone know what is meant by white wire attached to blue wire and RCA head? My connector loom may not be a standard one. The white RCA connector, left channel, has middle pin (neg I think?) connecting to pin 9, outside (positive?) connected to pin 8. Red RCA has outside connecting to pin 7 and middle to pin 6. However, on the block on the tube, there is no pin 7, space is empty?? Should I be tying a couple of these together in the wirng llom somehow?
When I connect up just now all I get is an intermittent but regular barely audible thud sound. Is my RCA wiring maybe not quite right?
